Beckett Aces Peavy, Padres

The battle of the aces in San Diego yesterday went to the Red Sox, as Josh Beckett improved to 11-1 on the season, going eight innings and giving up two runs in the Red Sox 4-2 win over the Padres yesterday afternoon.

Amalie Benjamin looks at Beckett coming up Aces in his matchup against Jake Peavy and the Padres. Michael Silverman observes that the Red Sox seem like a team that cannot wait for October to roll around. Sean McAdam notes that Beckett’s margin for error was slim, but he made few mistakes on the afternoon. Sandy Burgin says that Beckett wore out the Padres and the Red Sox wore out Jake Peavy.

Tony Massarotti says that the Red Sox hold all the power in any trade discussions about White Sox left-handed starter Mark Buehrle. Yesterday, the Chicago Sun-Times said that the Red Sox were the front-runners to acquire Buehrle. Dan Shaughnessy has more on Beckett, who has become the ace of the Red Sox staff in the shadow of the attention being paid to Daisuke Matsuzaka and Curt Schilling.

Kevin Gray has a look at Red Sox AA ace Clay Buchholz, who was in Manchester this weekend to take on the Fisher Cats.
