Sean McAdam says that this whole thing should’ve just ended a long time ago. Daniel Barbarisi says that even if Varitek rejects the offer today, this whole thing still might not be over. Alex Speier says that the Red Sox don’t have the next Varitek in their system, catcher being the one spot that they haven’t been able to develop in the minors. Dan Lamothe looks at the sad story of Varitek and Manny Ramirez this winter.

Thankyou, Gil Santos, for the excellence that you contributed to the Boston sports scene for the past 38 years. I just listened to your final sports report on WBZ and it moved me to tears.

I listened to you for your entire career, starting when you were teamed with Carl deSuze, and you always brought your very best to every broadcast. Your Patriots and Celtics play by play, and of course, your morning sports reports were always performed with accuracy, professionalism, class…and the very best voice in broadcast history.

It pleases me to no end that you will continue to serve as Patriots play by play man. I wouldn’t want it any other way. In fact, I cannot imagine it any other way.

You are, in short, the very best in the business.

Again, Gil, thankyou…from one of your millions of loyal fans.

    Mitch,

Listen to a Patriots game on the Rock Radio Network and you won’t be so kind.

    Bruce,
