All-Star Closer Will Tape Exclusive Weekly Webisode for Comcast SportsNet.com

BURLINGTON, MA – During the past two seasons, Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon has burst on to the media scene by blending candor and humor to take on any issue. Comcast SportsNet has once again recruited the All-Star closer to provide his view of the baseball world once a week on Mohegan Sun Sports Tonight and on CSNNE.com.

In the initial 2009 installment, Papelbon talked with hosts Gary Tanguay and Michael Felger on Wednesday before Game 2 of the Rays series. In the interview, Papelbon commented on walking through the stands, playing in cold weather and other topics. Papelbon’s in-show appearance can be seen every Wednesday on Mohegan Sun Sports Tonight at 6:30 and 10 p.m.

Papelbon’s exclusive weekly webisode will also be a must view for Red Sox fans and will be posted within 24-hours of his weekly in-show appearance. A year ago, the closer’s weekly web interview was highlighted by his high school Dirty Dancing/cross dressing performance and the subsequent grand clubhouse unveiling featuring David Ortiz and entire Red Sox squad. In his first webisode of the year, Papelbon played “Good Idea or Bad Idea” with Tanguay.

“Jonathan Papelbon is the type of athlete that fans simply love to watch. You only get the unvarnished truth from Jonathan Papelbon and we could not be more excited to bring him back for another year of exclusive interviews,” said Bill Bridgen, Comcast SportsNet executive vice president and general manager.

Papelbon is entertaining, no doubt about it, but does anyone think he’s not long for Boston? The Red Sox have worked very hard to put together a team of button-downed professionals. Papelbon doesn’t quite fit that mold. In addition, you know he’s going to have a contract clash with the team at some point, given his track record of statements on the matter around his arbitration hearings and his fondness for comparing himself to Mariano Rivera.

  1. there’s a new Schilling in town, with a third the IQ. And I don’t consider Schill to be all that bright. I agree, its Ramon Ramirez’s job by July.

  4. Papelbon is obviously going to the team that offers him the most money. If that’s the Sox (and I don’t think it will be) then so be it.

    The fact that he’s not “buttoned down” will have nothing to do with it.
