Lester is Too Much For O’s

Jon Lester continued his career dominance of the Baltimore Orioles, pitching seven shutout innings last night to lead the Red Sox to a 4-0 win. Lester is now 8-0 lifetime against Baltimore. J.D. Drew keyed the offense from the leadoff spot with three hits, including a home run, and Jonathan Papelbon tied the Red Sox career mark for saves with the 132nd of his career, putting him even with Bob Stanley in the record books.

Amalie Benjamin has Terry Francona’s decision to flip Drew and Dustin Pedroia in the lineup paying off. Sean McAdam has the Red Sox making Francona’s job look easy last night. Joe McDonald has the Sox wasting no time settling back into the American League.

Alex Speier has J.D. Drew the perfect leading man for the Sox right now. Steve Buckley has Drew looking at home in the leadoff spot. Adam Kilgore has a look at Jon Lester settling into a groove on the mound. Brian MacPherson has Kevin Youkilis OK with playing third base when Mike Lowell is out. Joe Haggerty has George Kottaras adjusting to life in the big leagues as Tim Wakefield’s personal catcher.

Lenny Megliola wonders what will become of Pedro Martinez. Rob Bradford has Mike Lowell optimistic after his shot yesterday. McDonald has Papelbon tying the Red Sox’ saves record. Buckley has Papelbon gushing over Mariano Rivera.

Celtics

Gerry Callahan says that the balance of power is shifting in the Eastern Conference and Danny Ainge must deal with the changing landscape. Jim Fenton has the Celtics set to do some shopping in free agency. Frank Dell’Apa and Marc J. Spears have Ainge saying that Glen “Big Baby’ Davis will be tendered a qualifying offer, allowing the Celtics to match any deal he signs elsewhere.

Mark Murphy has Ainge on hand to annouce the Celtics affiliation with the new Maine Red Claws of the NBDL. Murphy says Eddie House might test the free agent waters.

Bruins/Misc

Stephen Harris says things might be quiet for the start of NHL free agency. Kevin Paul Dupont examines how the Bruins proposed trade of Phil Kessel fell apart due to poor communication on draft day.
