Rice Hits The Hall This Weekend

Jim Rice will be enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame this weekend, a long overdue honor for the most fearsome slugger of my childhood.

John Powers has a feature on Rice’s Hall of Fame career. Steve Buckley also has a feature on Rice and his long journey to the hall. Bill Burt says that Rice owes a lot to former Sox PR man Dick Bresciani. Powers adds that Rice and Carl Yastrzemski were kindred spirits.

Adam Kilgore says that Adam LaRoche should fit right in with the Red Sox. Bill Ballou notes that the Red Sox batting slump has really lasted all season long when compared to previous seasons. Ron Borges says that the Sox will hit eventually. Sean McAdam has the Sox hoping some home cooking will get them back on track. Lenny Megliola is waiting to see what the Sox do next. Joe McDonald says that Theo Epstein still sees a need for upgrades on his club.

Alex Speier remembers what happened five years ago today.

Amalie Benjamin has a minor league notebook with a focus on Portland outfielder Ryan Kalish.

Kilgore’s notebook has John Smoltz not yet ready to throw in the towel. McAdam’s notebook explores what roster move the Red Sox will make to activate LaRoche.
