What could he learn exactly? How to surround himself with sycophants and yell down every caller that disagrees with him? How to shank Jonny Most in the back? Sounds like Simmons is doing just fine, especially with his podcasts that have real, intelligent guests that he allows to speak, rather than ask them 4 minute questions (Sheppard). Also, they're commercial free, so F the radio

I believe Ordway was the original national play by play person for ESPN Radio when they won the NBA radio contract. I believe he only lasted one season because his father became ill and he wanted to tend to him. I've been trying to confirm this but have not been able to it.

Its very funny to watch 2 very successful people go at it like this. They must have the thinnest skins possible.

Or they are trying to compensate for tiny penises.

Agree. I haven't listened to the Big Show in a few years since I couldn't stand Ordway and Sheppard anymore. I generally like Simmons but he does come off sounding like a tool in the Herald story.

I don't listen to WEEI much at all anymore, but Simmons seems to be providing more grist for the mill argument that he's really become a self-important, pompous "Joe Hollywood" since his move out to L.A. and his full-time employment gig with E!SPN--the worldwide leader in sports tabloid reporting. If they didn't have the best college football coverage around, I wouldn't watch them anymore either.

That shot about Ordway not being able to work nationally was uncalled for. Like him or not, The Big O has been in the Boston radio market for about 30 years now and Simmons probably could learn a thing or two from him. The only reason Simmons "works nationally" is due to his unique talent that enables him to work an obscure pop culture reference into almost every paragraph he writes...that plays well in Peoria as well as Peabody.

I knew there was a reason why I stopped reading most of his stuff at least 2 years ago.

I'm not defending Ordway, by the way, but I'm merely pointing out that Simmons comes off like a jackass in Heslam's article IMO.
