Obviously the Patriots cared about that stupid consecutive wins record, they put out a DVD commemorating it! And they still have a banner hanging at the stadium signifying that they won all their REGULAR SEASON games in 2007...leaving out the loss in a particulary big playoff game.

So you're saying the Colts as a #1 seed have lost in the first round of the playoffs? That is historic. I didn't think you could lose when you have a bye week.

What I'm glad about now is that Polian finally validated my belief about the Colts: that they're more concerned with stats and regular season milestones. They truly strive to be regular season champions, which is extremely laughable. Who the hell cared when the Patriots broke the consecutive victories record? Nobody. Nobody cares when the Seattle Mariners broke the baseball regular season record either.

Nobody remembers the #1 seed in any sport unless they lose in the 1st round, something the Colts are very familiar with.

"16-0 we did not feel was a historic achievement," Polian told Eisen. "What was important to us...was to set two records. One, for the most consecutive regular-season games won.... And secondly, for the most games won in this decade. And I don't believe that anybody can catch us now, no matter what happens this week. We felt those were both extremely historical milestones that were worth going out there and risking everything for."

Wow...those direct quotes really read like a desperate rationalization by somebody who doesn't believe what he's saying.

I think it's fair to say that nobody cared about the regular season streak, or even most wins in a decade - especially with just one SB win.

For him to make some bizarre claim that 16-0 was not a historic achievement - when it's a signature achievement in ALL OF PROFESSIONAL SPORTS - makes no sense at all.

He knows the team screwed it up, he knows they lost their chance at history, and now instead of just being frank about it, he's grasping at a variety of irrational claims.

Profootballtalk.com has a great article about Polian's rambling interview.
