I'll never forget listening to Shaughnessy on Barnicle's old WTKK show the morning after the Sox defeated the Yanks in game 7 in 2004. Barnicle and his newsguy Hank were saying that the "curse" was over. Dan basically threw a hissy fit on air, insisting it wasn't over until the Sox won the world series. It was clear Barnicle was trying to tweak him, and equally clear that Dan was either too obtuse, or too wrapped up in himself, to catch on. He kept insisting that since he invented the curse, it wasn't over until he said it was, which was upon a world series victory.

It was pathetic, and it was a guy who took both the curse - and his entertainment reporter-self - way too seriously.

per usual you made your point poorly and got caught up in making your cheap shots. Much like the people you most often complain about.

The curse was a bit, like the loserville stuff was and the city of the decade nonsense going on more recently it means nothing.

The point of all of this was that after 2004, the media stopped referencing the "curse." I don't think any one here is of the opinion that the media actually believed in a curse, but that didn't stop them from mentioning one every chance they got. 2004 put an end to that. That's the whole point.

A decade is any grouping of 10 years. There is nothing wrong with saying the 90s ran from 1990-99 or the '00s end today. You could come up with a nickname for the period of ten years from 1985-94 if you wanted to. This isn't like referring to our method of counting centuries, which start at a fixed point in time.

I can only speak for me I have never heard anyone media or non that they beleived in any curse and that was the reason the sox did not win a series.
I heard it as schtick by media and non especially everytime some idiot would dive for Ruth's Piano or hold an exorcism, but in a serious discussion about baseball not once.

Well if you want to get technical, this isn't New Year's Eve, either.

I'd argue it was the media themselves who were silently worrying that while they made fun of CHB, they all wrote shades of the same story. And by the Red Sox winning in '04, it essentially forced them all to change the script.

I think the real fans are just as passionate, if not more, now that we've had the taste of winning. We just are more willing to look at the big picture.
