Celtics Beat L.A.

It was a slugfest, but the Celtics fought through and held off the Los Angeles Lakers last night at the Staples Center, 87-86.

Many will point out that the Lakers were playing without Kobe Bryant, but I don’t hear those same people cutting the Celtics any slack when they play without KG or Pierce. Everyone says how deep this Lakers team is (and they are) so this win doesn’t need an asterisk attached to it, especially with the struggles that the Celtics have had as of late.

Don’t write off Celtics yet - Chris Forsberg has the Celtics coming up with a signature win out in L.A.

One more chance for Three - Dan Shaughnessy has Danny Ainge deciding to keep the big three together for one last title run.

Celtics hope Robinson is the answer - Scott Souza with a look at what the Celtics hope that Nate Robinson will bring them.

Back to business for C’s - Paul Flannery has the big three being granted a reprieve many don’t believe they’ve earned.

Lackey gets his first taste of life inside the Red Sox fishbowl - Daniel Barbarisi has the Red Sox big free agent signing checking in for spring training.

The Lackey Effect: Newcomer’s impact on the rotation - Alex Speier with his usual, thoughtful analysis.

Handful of aces good deal - Steve Buckley has a look at the vaunted Red Sox rotation for 2010.

Patriots Must Hope to be Proven Right After Trading Down in 2009 Draft - Jeff Howe revisits the 2009 draft for the Patriots.

Despite complaints, coverage makes sense - Chad Finn defends NBC’s coverage of the Olympic games.

NBC wins its own gold, beating ‘American Idol’ - Bill Doyle has more on NBC’s coverage, which became the first program to beat American Idol in the ratings since 2004.

As this is posted, we’re just a few minutes away from the Tiger Woods press conference, an event Gary Tanguay pronounced yesterday, in all seriousness, as “bigger than the moon landing.” He also said that Tiger is bigger than John Kennedy and Martin Luther King.

I could see Felger saying the same thing. A great example of why listening to sports talk is a waste of time.

I’m so hoping that the day comes and 98.5 realizes what a horrible mistake they made in hiring Tanguay. He is simply inept in every way possible. Zolak and Max Lane both thought Chicken Little lost his mind.

I have two small observations from yesterday.

    1) I know Anne Allred is very easy on the eyes and is a good reporter, but if you are Joe Amorsino and the rest of the sports department at WHDH, are you not asking, “Isn’t the Olympics sports? So, why are we not there?”

    2) I saw Carolyn Manno on NECN last night. Her hair looked like she was in a battle royal with an ostrich. I usually will not comment on appearances but frankly I was startled when I say her.

I wonder if the folks at CBS Radio hired Tanguay because they thought he had good chemistry with Zolak and thought that Gary had more broadcast experience than the former NFL QB (who I believe is underrated as a radio talk host).

I can’t figure out the mystery of Allred either, other than the easy-on-the-eyes quality. I didn’t find her work at Bejiing in ’08 was that great, seems like they could have sent someone else to Vancouver…like maybe a sports reporter??

I admit I would enjoy watching Anne Allred reading an upside down Denny’s menu. She’s not drop-dead “gorgeous,” but she is VERY cute, VERY easy on the eyes, appears to have a fun-loving personality, and has the elusive “it” factor going for herself in spades. Yeah, put me down as a fan.

One more item, I caught some of NECN’s coverage of Tiger Woods today. The on site reporter for them was Julie Donaldson former WHDH reporter. She works for CSN South. I did not recognize her until the anchor’s told us who it was. The last time I remember seeing Donaldson her face was puffy and swollen looking and this was well after the incident with her boyfriend. She looked much better and did a very good job giving facts and a few opinions as well. It looked like she has recovered nicely.

        Good for her.

That was a terrible thing that happened to her. No one deserves that. I’m glad she’s landed on her own two feet again.

Tanguay grates on the nerves & ears with his deep, ‘haughty’ ‘radio voice.’ I despise him, and it’s clear than hundreds of others do, too. Which is probably half his whole audience.
