Celtics To Honor 30 Seasons of Heinsohn and Gorman

The Boston Celtics will honor the CSNNE broadcast duo of Tom Heinsohn and Mike Gorman prior to tonight’s game against the Indiana Pacers.

During a pre-game ceremony, Celtics CEO and Co-owner Wyc Grousbeck and Celtics Captain Paul Pierce will present commemorative Celtics jerseys with the number “30” to Mike and Tommy on center court.

Comcast SportsNet will have live coverage of the presentation and special features throughout its telecast of the game.

On Friday at 7:30 p.m., Comcast SportsNet will debut 30 Seasons of Mike & Tommy, a special retrospective on Mike and Tommy’s broadcast career. 30 Seasons of Mike & Tommy will relive their best highlights and signature calls; include a candid sit-down in which Mike and Tommy interview each other; and tributes from celebrities, players and NBA dignitaries. The special will also feature segments on their beginning, the Garden, the 90’s, Tommy vs. the referees, Tommy Points, “I love Walter,” “Got It,” and their 1000th game.

On a related note, the website Awful Announcing has an interview with the decidedly-not-awful Gorman.

I've always been a big C's fan, but when the team was at it's worst, it was still worth tuning in to hear Mike and Tommy. They are always insightful and entertaining. Tommy gets more attention because of his willingness to play the buffoon, but Mike is one of the most underrated basketball announcers ever. Pure pro.

Mike Gorman and Andy Brickley deserve combat pay. And I like Tommy. "These guys are AWFUL!" "Well, what can I say?" "I! LOVE! WALTAH!"

If you don't like Gorman you don't like anybody. A hard reputation to get in that profession.

It was fairly obvious how uncomfortable Mike was being in the spotlight last night, he couldn't wait to get back to doing his job. All of which just increases my respect for him.

Gorman is the best play by play guy I've ever heard. Tommy is just amusing icing on the cake. I think they can get by with Donny Marshall in the future, but I pray, PRAY, they don't give the play by play job to Tanguay.

I would love to have a situation where Gorman, Brickley and Orsillo are the booth together covering… I dunno, some sport. Jack Edwards can get on my nerves, Tommy is great but he's the world's biggest homer and Jerry Remy is fine when he's not trying to sell me things.

They interviewed Bill Walton, Tommy and Mike yesterday on the Big Show. I learned two things. Bill Walton was near suicide about a year ago and his older brother played in the NFL. I've been a fan of Walton since his UCLA days. I still think he was the best college center I've ever seen. I was really surprised that I'd never heard about his brother before.
